Siemens Healthineers Streamlines Erlangen Campus with Headquarters Demolition

ByCorporate Communications

Siemens Healthineers is advancing plans to redevelop its Erlangen campus by removing a long-vacant headquarters building, marking a strategic step toward optimizing site usage and preparing for future development within one of its key operational locations.

Siemens Healthineers has submitted an application to demolish its former headquarters at Henkestrasse 127, Erlangen. The high-rise, vacant since 2018, will be deconstructed to resolve uncertainty surrounding the site and streamline operations while creating space for future development within the company’s existing property portfolio.

The deconstruction process is technically complex, involving the removal of approximately 46,000 tonnes of concrete. To minimize disruption for residents, the company plans a controlled, layer-by-layer dismantling after interior stripping, with project costs estimated in the mid-single-digit million-euro range and work expected to begin during 2026.

A key factor behind the decision was economic feasibility. After detailed evaluation, management concluded that refurbishing the 14-story tower to meet modern energy efficiency standards was not financially viable, ultimately leading to the decision to proceed with demolition rather than redevelopment of the existing structure.

The building, designed in 1964 by Wilhelm Schlegtendal, once served as the administrative hub for Siemens Reiniger Werke. While the structure will be removed, the site will remain within Siemens Healthineers’ portfolio, with internal discussions ongoing regarding future use of the prime location.
