The BioSentry Tract Sealant System is designed to address biopsy-related pneumothorax following percutaneous CT-guided lung biopsies. It deploys a dehydrated, self-expanding hydrogel plug into the pleural space to create an airtight seal that closes the pleural puncture. The plug fully resorbs over time, and during this period, it remains visible to mark the biopsy location for surgical resection. The applicator standardizes plug placement. Compatible with 17 G and 19 G coaxial introducer needles, the system has been clinically shown to significantly reduce pneumothorax and chest tube placement rates, as well as decrease hospital stay duration, with no clinically significant complications associated with its use.
