Thermo Fisher Scientific has strengthened its global supply chain capabilities with the opening of a new large-scale distribution centre in Ireland, aimed at supporting growing demands across the life sciences sector and enhancing logistics efficiency for research, development, and manufacturing activities in one of Europe’s most important pharmaceutical hubs.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has opened a 70,000 sq. ft. distribution centre in Bracetown, County Meath, significantly expanding infrastructure. The facility increases in-country distribution capacity by over 400%, enabling broader product storage and supply to support drug discovery, clinical development, and commercial manufacturing for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical customers across Ireland.
“This opening reflects Thermo Fisher’s long-term commitment to serving Ireland’s vibrant life sciences sector,” said Claire Wallace. “By expanding local distribution capacity, we are responding efficiently to customer needs, improving the quality, speed, and reliability of supply chains while strengthening partnerships across research, development, and manufacturing environments in the region.”
The facility is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring an on-site solar energy system expected to generate approximately 120,000 kWh annually. A high-efficiency heat pump enables operations using 100% renewable energy, while the building’s A2 Building Energy Rating reflects strong environmental performance and long-term energy efficiency standards for modern industrial infrastructure.
The centre was officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Peter Burke and Rory Mullen of IDA Ireland. Minister Burke stated that the investment strengthens Ireland’s global leadership in life sciences manufacturing and enhances critical supply chain infrastructure supporting continued sector growth and innovation.
