BD Biosciences and CSIR-IGIB Launch Centre of Excellence for Single-Cell Multiomics

ByBD Biosciences

December 23, 2025 (India) – BD Biosciences and CSIR‑IGIB Inaugurate First Centre of Excellence for Single‑Cell Multiomics – Global life sciences company BD Biosciences, a division of Becton, Dickinson and Company, in collaboration with the CSIR‑Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR‑IGIB), has officially inaugurated India’s first Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Single‑Cell Multiomics. The new centre aims to advance cutting‑edge life sciences research by combining state‑of‑the‑art single‑cell analysis technologies with high‑throughput sequencing and bioinformatics expertise.

Located in Delhi, the Centre of Excellence leverages BD’s Rhapsody™ Single Cell Analysis Solutions alongside CSIR‑IGIB’s deep capabilities in next‑generation sequencing (NGS) and computational biology to offer a comprehensive platform for single‑cell multiomics research. By enabling detailed molecular profiling of individual cells, the centre is positioned to accelerate discoveries in critical areas such as immunity, cancer biology, molecular mechanisms of disease, and precision medicine.

“This Single‑Cell Multiomics Centre of Excellence reflects our commitment to empowering scientists with advanced tools that drive innovation in health research,” said Atul Grover, Managing Director of BD India and South Asia. He emphasized that the facility will serve as a hub for training, application support, and collaborative research, helping researchers translate complex biological data into real‑world healthcare solutions.

Key Highlights of the Centre of Excellence

  • India’s first dedicated hub for single‑cell multiomics research, integrating advanced analytical and computational tools.
  • Collaboration between BD Biosciences and CSIR‑IGIB, combining industry‑leading technology with national research expertise.
  • Designed to support training, application support, and collaborative research for scientists, clinicians, and industry partners.
  • Focus areas include deep insights into cellular behaviour, immune responses, cancer mechanisms, and precision therapeutic strategies.
  • Reinforces India’s growing infrastructure for genomics, bioinformatics, and advanced biomedical science.

Dr. Souvik Maiti, Director of CSIR‑IGIB, highlighted that the partnership strengthens India’s research capabilities in high‑resolution cell analysis techniques and fosters an ecosystem of innovation and collaboration aimed at addressing national and global health challenges.

Industry observers note that single‑cell multiomics technologies represent a powerful frontier in life sciences, enabling researchers to study biological systems with unprecedented detail. By characterizing the molecular features of individual cells across genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other omics layers, scientists can uncover new biomarkers, understand disease mechanisms, and accelerate the development of targeted therapies. The new CoE is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming biomedical research and enhancing India’s position in the global scientific landscape.
